Unlike typical decking materials that require constant sealing, staining, and worry, Accoya delivers real wood beauty with remarkably low maintenance. Through its unique acetylation process, Accoya becomes highly resistant to rot, warping, and weathering—so you can spend less time maintaining your deck and more time enjoying it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Accoya resistant to insects and termites?

Yes. Accoya deck boards are highly resistant to termites and wood-destroying organisms. Thanks to its patented acetylation process, Accoya alters the wood’s structure at the cellular level, making it indigestible to pests without the use of harmful chemicals.

In fact, Accoya is certified for use in termite zones, and is 22 times more resistant than pine. That means you can install it with confidence in regions where termites and other insects are a serious concern, without compromising on beauty, safety, or sustainability.

Do Accoya deck boards expand and contract with temperature changes?

Accoya deck boards have exceptional dimensional stability, meaning they experience minimal expansion or contraction—even in extreme temperature or humidity changes. Their low moisture absorption prevents swelling, shrinking, and warping, making it ideal for climates with seasonal fluctuations or wet conditions.

Can an Accoya deck be pressure washed?

The use of a high-pressure cleaner is absolutely unsuitable for wooden decking and is expressly NOT recommended. The high-pressure water jet can damage the wooden boards, regardless of the wood species. please see Accoya decking video for guidance.

What is the environmental impact of Accoya decking?

Accoya decking is one of the most environmentally responsible choices available. Made from fast-growing, responsibly sourced wood, Accoya undergoes a non-toxic acetylation process that enhances performance without adding harmful chemicals or plastics.

It’s 100% recyclable, contains no toxic preservatives, and has a low carbon lifecycle footprint, making it a smart choice for environmentally conscious homeowners, builders, and architects. Accoya is also backed by leading sustainability certifications, including FSC®, Declare, and Cradle to Cradle Certified® Gold.

What maintenance does The Decking Collection require?

The Decking Collection is remarkably low maintenance. Unlike many wood or composite options, it doesn’t require regular sealing or chemical treatments to resist rot and decay. Simple periodic cleaning with mild soap and water is typically all that’s needed to keep it looking great. The Decking Collection will age gracefully and patina naturally according to its environment without warping, cracking, or splintering. However, you can sand and apply finishes to change the look of your deck if you wish.
